An Lanntair – Nicholson Institute Drama Club

An Lanntair are based in Kenneth Street, Stornoway. They have 1 group taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to hone our performance and stagecraft skills and bring to life some work that was written by a talented playwright. We read the excerpt and were excited to share our thoughts and ideas of how we could develop a performance further.

They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of Ms Campbell’s Class Fourth Period.

An Lanntair is an arts venue in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis that brings a range of arts events to audiences including live theatre & music, art, events, film, and entertainment. The group I am signing up is an after-school drama session for secondary school pupils.

Highland Youth Theatre – HYT Seniors

Highland Youth Theatre are based in Forres, Moray. They have 2 groups taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because we have a large Senior Youth Theatre group who are ready for their next challenge. I think this could be it!

They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of Ms Campbell’s Class Fourth Period. 

Highland Youth Theatre (HYT) based in the North East of Scotland, works extensively with children and young people aged 3-18years. Through drama, theatre and creative practices we aim to develop confidence and self esteem, build resilience and nurture talent all whilst providing a space for children and young people to feel safe, included and creatively thrive.

Edinburgh Acting School – EAS Youth S1-S6 CAST A

Edinburgh Acting School are based in Musselburgh. They have 3 groups taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because the opportunity to discover new work that is specifically written for and by the youth is today is really special. We want to work with new material and feel part of a wider community as we explore the text and also see how other groups interpret it also. They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of Are You A Robot? 

We are an Edinburgh based acting school that was established in 1982, this is out 41st year operating. Our Kids Youth programme has been going from strength to strength since we relaunched that aspect of the school 2 years ago. We have 40 students from P5-S6 who attend weekly classes to improve their skills. Each term we focus on something different and this Jan-June term we are looking at stage skills and looking to explore text, new work and put on a public performance.

Belgrade Theatre – Youth Acting Classes

Belgrade Theatre are based in Coventry. They have 2 groups taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because we want to explore plays that are being written in and about the world around us, right now. They will be working towards creating a Recorded extracts of Are You A Robot?

We run lots of groups for young people at the theatre and out in the community. We are passionate about giving young people a platform to tell important stories. We aim to make our sessions accessible and inclusive.

Somerset Youth Theatre CIC – SYT Highbridge Company

Somerset Youth Theatre CIC are based in Taunton. They have 2 groups taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be able to devise original work, alongside a professional script by skilled writers for young people. Our SYT Companies will lead the production process and have opportunities to extend their work by commissioning Artists from different mediums. They will be working towards creating a site-specific performance of Ms Campbell’s Class Fourth Period. 

Somerset Youth Theatre CIC provides safe spaces for young people to create, explore and find their voice through Theatre and the Arts.  We do this because young people’s voices matter. We believe ALL young people are Artists and should have access to high quality Arts experiences. We put young people at the heART of the making, facilitated by professional Theatre makers and companies across the county.

Theatre Royal Dumfries – Guild of Players Youth Theatre Seniors

Theatre Royal Dumfries are based in Shakespeare Street, Dumfries. They have 3 groups taking part in Season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because The Guild of Youth Players have been growing in numbers since the pandemic. After the biggest youth cast in the Guilds pantomime, we have proven the young peoples talent in the community. I’m excited for these kids to get a modern script in their hand, and really put their skills to the test. I’m also excited for a potential young person to take the lead on some of the production team roles. 

Exposing them to more playwrights will help their understanding of the theatre making and show what is capable in this world. They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of Ms Campbell’s Class Fourth Period. We are the Youth section of the Guild of Player, the amateur theatre that owns and resides in the oldest working theatre in Scotland, Theatre Royal Dumfries. The Guild of Players Youth Theatre meets every Tuesday to explore theatre making, and put on shows for their community. Our age range is 7 – 18, with kids of all skills and abilities. They’ve done devising, improv and script work with workshops in specialised skills as well. They are passionate about challenging themselves and engaging with their wider area to collaborate and create.

Eden Court Youth Theatre 11-13

Eden Court Highlands are based in Inverness. They have 2 groups taking part in season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because we are big youth theatre fans at Eden Court, and we are 100% buzzing to be hosting a youth theatre festival again in 2023. Our building being bustling full of young people is something that makes us really happy – bring on July! 

They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of Ms Campbell’s Class Fourth Period. We’re proud to be Scotland’s largest combined arts organisation. We present and make work with, by and for the people of the Highlands and Islands and those who visit us. Our Engagement Team run creative arts projects, programmes and happenings in our building and across the Highlands for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

ZigZag Theatre – Broadbeach Ensemble

ZigZag Theatre are based in Bundall. They have 5 groups taking part in season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because We took part last year and had so much fun.  They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of The Day the Stampers United. More about ZigZag Theatre are a youth theatre company based on the Gold Coast, Australia. We facilitate weekly drama and musical theatre classes for ages 3 up to 18.

Toonspeak – Theatre Makers Intermediates

Toonspeak are based in Barmulloch Residents Centre,Glasgow. They have 3 groups taking part in season 3 of Positive Stories for Negative Times and are excited to be involved because Toonspeak‘s groups have not had many opportunities to perform since the start of 2020, so this will be a wonderful chance for our older groups to do so!. They will be working towards creating a Full stage production of The Day the Stampers United. More about Toonspeak is a youth arts organisation with a mission to transform lives through creativity, by providing free to access opportunities and workshops in the performing arts for children and young people in and around Glasgow.
